Words: A Love-Hate Story

17th July, 2009. 8:40 pm. New Asylum

Well, I finally did it--I created my very first community!

It's called [info]tale_spin, which was originally going to be my name for this blog, but I thought it would serve better as the community name.

I have one member so far, which I am very happy about. All the rules and regulations are listed in the very first entry and whoever writes Original Fiction (not fanfiction or crossovers, sorry) can post their stuff on there. You can also just talk about OF and your experiences therein. I want a nice open, friendly community where everyone can help each other out when it comes to creating their own little literary worlds.

It is open to anyone who cares to join. Which I hope will be more than one person. :)

So to get to the point of all this self-pimpage--check it out!!

Current mood: hopeful.
Current music: Mouthwash--Kate Nash.

13th July, 2009. 10:33 am. Help Wanted?

I was lying in bed yesterday night wondering why I still wasn't entirely happy with this blog. Then I realized something.

I don't want to be just another struggling writer whining about the struggles of writing. I want to share what I know! I want to help other people write better! Okay, I don't have a degree in Being A Writing Coach, but I have a BA in English! That's a start, right?

Seriously. I've been working towards a Creative Writing diploma with a correspondence course I've been in for more than a year, I am familiar with peer editing, I am no stranger to criticism (both constructive and not,) and I have read so much fanfiction that BELIEVE ME, I can tell what's going to work and what isn't from a distance of ten yards.

I need to actually poke around here and make some friends before I can be a reputable writing coach, but it's a long-term goal. For now, I'm putting that out there. If you write, want to write, have trouble writing or get writer's block so much that you think there should be a prescription for it, do feel free to talk to me. I will do what I can to help.

I am honest but not brutal, unless that is what you need. I know what is constructive and what is just plain bitchy, so I will not subject you to that. I have a good eye for spelling and grammar errors, as well as sentence structure. It doesn't matter if you're writing your first fanfic or working on a serious novel. I will be glad to help regardless.

Just putting that out there.

Current mood: hopeful.

12th July, 2009. 9:31 am. But enough about me....

Hello! My name is lemonsofsorcery, known to some as Nell (which is a girl's name, for anyone who's wondering.) I am a 24-yr-old college graduate with a BA in English. My truest of true loves is writing, and I work for a local paper in a small Vermont town. I write articles on local authors and artisans, and I've been honing my journalism skills since January of this year.

When I'm not interviewing people and reminding myself to buckle down and make my deadline, I write lots of original fiction. And fanfiction. I cannot lie. I have written scores of Harry Potter fanfiction and have recently progressed to Merlin (the BBC show, not the actual Arthurian legend) fanfiction. But none of that will be found here, as I am trying to stick to the trials, tribulations and triumphs of Strictly Original Fiction.

(If you're more interested in fanfiction, go to Livejournal.com and look me up on the communities merlinfic and harrydraco.)

But seriously, folks. I will be doing my best to update every week about my own personal writing experiences. Whether I'm in the midst of a glorious upswing of inspiration or suffering from a serious dry spell, ranting about plot contrivances that I simply cannot stand, or whining that I will never ever be the Good Writer I so aspire to be in a gazillion years, all that and more will be posted here. Because unless every story I've ever heard is a complete lie, no writer ever got very far by not writing.

I will strive to be completely honest and uncensored, while still remaining sensitive to whatever issues need to be treated with sensitivity. If you like, don't like, agree with or do not agree with anything I say here, please comment and share your own thoughts. But PLEASE be mature and reasonably eloquent. Anything that's nothing more than a lot of colorful obscenities or insults will be admired, but ultimately deleted. This is not a random messsageboard, this is my writing blog. Please respect it as such.

Well, that's all for now. I'll be back next week!

Current mood: creative.
Current music: Storytelling--Belle&Sebastian.
